Last night I was on Facebook reading through posts when I came to one by Joyce Meyer. She posts quite a few each day and I love them. She is truly an inspirational person. I usually do not read all of the comments but this one caught my attention. Her post said, “Encourage your children to pray to their heavenly Father who knows them and will welcome them with open arms! Have you overheard your child praying or talked to them about prayer? Any tips on how to share God's love with your family? Share your story with us!” I was curious as to what other parents had written. I loved what this one lady wrote. She had a wonderful son who did his Bible Study each morning and said his prayers each night before going to bed. This, to me, is awesome. I do not know if this is parent guided or not, but either way it is amazing that this child gets into the Bible each day and is learning the value of prayer. This child is doing more than most adults do in a day. She must be very proud of her son. But…this wonderful mother took it a step farther. Most of us would be thrilled that our children were doing this much and leave it at that. Heck most of us feel that we are doing awesome because we read the Bible once a day and pray before we go to sleep!
The mother’s name is Lizz Cusma
and here is what she talked about with her
son.
"My eleven year old, Gabriel, does his
own devotional every morning first thing and prays every night. One day I asked
him if he would feel loved and appreciated if I only spoke to him in the morning
and evening, and ignored him the the whole rest of the day. He told me that
would make him very sad. I explained that is how we make God feel when we don't
include Him in our day. I also asked him how he would feel if the only time I
spent time with him was to ask him to do something. Same response. I told him
that we should START every prayer thanking God for all He has done and telling
Him how much we love Him. I am very proud of my little sweetheart who seeks God
daily. Good habits now equal Godly men later! =D"
This paragraph really touched my heart
and also sent a little conviction also. This is something that I have been
working on in my daily life, but am far from where I need to be. I thought that
this was a wonderful testament to what we should teach our children, but how can
we teach it to our children if we are not doing it
ourselves?
