"Without the soul, divinely quickened and inspired, the observances of the grandest ritualism are as worthless as the motions of a galvanized corpse." - Anonymous
For me who the Holy Spirit was, was way beyond my understanding. I knew that we were filled with the Holy Spirit when we asked Jesus into our hearts, but past that I did not understand. I remember awhile back wantin to learn more, but when I went looking I did not really find the answers that I was needing. Maybe that was so that I could find them now and share them with all of you :).
When I think about a spirit I think about a "thing" rather than a "person". So I guess the first thing that I have learned is that the Holy Spirit is not an "it", but a "Him." Which was very enlightening for me. (Do not ask me how I did not figure this out earlier LOL). When I was growing up, I did not learn very much about the Holy Spirit. I really did not learn a lot about God until I was in high school. Oh my parents were Christians and mentioned God, but it was more of a "do you think that God would want you to do that" kind of thing. I remember seeing my mom read her Bible some and we did go to church some, but not with any regularity. I guess that is why I was a little clueless. Anyway, LOL, back on subject.
Moody says, "We have heard of Him (the Holy Spirit) and read of Him, but we have had little knowledge of His attributes, His offices, and His relations to us... nor is He know to them as a personality of the Godhead." This is me. What is funny is that now as I look back I can see where the Holy Spirit has moved and worked in my life, but I did not understand that it was actually the Holy Spirit doing the work on the trinity's behalf.
The trinity is 3 individual personalities that make up one Godhead. You will hear people say - God the Father (God), god the Savior (Jesus), or God the Comforter and Teacher (Holy Spirit). The book also describes it this way: "the Father plans, the Son executes, and the Holy Spirit applies".
- I John 5:7 - For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these are one.
